Bill Sweeney, the chief executive of England’s Rugby bingo Football Union (RFU), has confirmed that “tentative” discussions have been held over a possible British and Irish league bingo
The long-mooted idea would unite club rugby in the British Isles into one competition bingo
The loss of London Irish, Worcester Warriors and Wasps in the last 13 months has highlighted financial problems in the English domestic game, with the top-flight Gallagher Premiership now containing just 10 teams bingo
The four Welsh regions have also had their funding cut for the new season of the United Rugby Championship (URC), which features competing teams from Ireland, Scotland, South Africa and Italy bingo
Sweeney is currently helping to negotiate a new Professional Game Partnership (PGP) bingo between the Premiership and RFU that it is hoped will solve many of the issues ailing the English game bingo
But while suggesting that plans were pressing ahead on that front ahead of a potential implementation next summer, the RFU CEO confirmed that he had engaged in “hypothetical” discussions about a British and Irish league bingo
“I think you’d expect us to talk about anything really, the way the game needs to grow, the game needs to be financially stronger,” Sweeney explained bingo
Bill Sweeney is the RFU’s chief executive (Getty Images)“We want to attract more investment coming in, so all sorts of conversations take place in terms of different options bingo
That one’s not fully developed by any means bingo
“So it’s a very tentative, hypothetical conversation at this stage but it has certain merits, but it also has certain challenges bingo
It doesn’t affect the PGP, we will go ahead with a PGP in parallel, and just do that bingo
But it’s one of a number of things that people talk about in terms of how do you take the game forward bingo
”“It is fraught with challenges, I tend to think about look what happened in bingo football with the European Super League, so fans are going to be taken into consideration on this bingo
What does that mean in terms of the overall structure? “Some very big, significant questions are going to be asked on it, which is why I say at this stage, it’s very tentative but we consider all conversations bingo
”The next couple of years are likely to see the introduction of a “Premiership Two” to replace the Championship as the RFU looks to maximise the efficacy and revenue of the second tier bingo
This may include a return for the three rugby brands lost from the Premiership this year bingo
Wasps announced on Monday that they were exploring the possibility of building a new permanent home near Swanley in Kent bingo
Wasps have announced plans to explore the possible building of a stadium in Kent (Getty Images)The south east of England produces a significant number of players but does not currently have a team in the top two tiers of English rugby, and Sweeney believes bringing a professional club area would be a good idea bingo
“I was very heavily involved with [new Wasps owner] Chris Holland during the whole process where the club went into insolvency,” Sweeney said bingo
“I haven’t had a conversation with him recently about the plans to move to Kent bingo
I do know that when research was done in terms of catchment areas, that’s one of the best locations from a fanbase perspective and the development of a sound business plan bingo
I’ll contact him when I get back bingo

Harvey Elliott insists he is ready to take his game to the next level as he eyes Euro 2024 bingo
The Liverpool midfielder captained England Under-21s for the first time on Monday, leading the Young Lions as they slipped to a late 3-2 defeat to Ukraine in Slovakia bingo
He returns to domestic action this weekend, looking to force his way into the Liverpool line-up for Saturday’s Merseyside derby with Everton bingo
Despite a frustrating lack of starts for the Reds this term, Euro 2024 remains a real goal for Elliott, after England’s 3-1 win over Italy on Tuesday booked their place in Germany, and he is primed to take his chance bingo
He said: “Absolutely, I’ve felt ready for a while now bingo
It’s just about making sure I keep applying myself to be the best possible player and person I can be bingo
“It’s a nice goal to reach and aim towards bingo
The tunnel vision is there, it’s taking it game-by-game, and if the opportunity comes I’ll be the happiest kid in the world bingo
“The Under-21s is my main focus, make sure I’m applying myself and being the best possible person and player for myself bingo
“If you’re not doing that there’s no change bingo
You have to do the basics right, set a good example, and if the opportunity comes it comes bingo
If not, you have to keep working and, hopefully, one day it will come bingo
”Elliott has started just once in the Premier League this term but came off at half time in the 2-2 draw at Brighton just before the international break bingo
Jurgen Klopp’s summer midfield refresh has seen Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita and Fabinho leave Liverpool, with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch joining bingo
The competition has restricted Elliott to 164 minutes in the Premier League and he is under no illusions about the challenge at Anfield bingo
He said: “I’m just trying to take everything from Hendo and Milner, big characters in the dressing room who have left bingo
I’m not trying to be the next Hendo or Milly but be the best version of myself and the leader I’ve learned to be off them bingo
“I always knew the season was going to be like this bingo
Liverpool, being a world-class team, are always going to attract unbelievable players and that’s exactly what they’ve done bingo
“It’s healthy competition bingo
Not everyone is guaranteed to play, and when you get your chance you have to make sure you take it bingo
The quality is there, it’s about applying it on the pitch bingo
“I feel I can do a job wherever I’m put bingo
The most important thing is putting that red shirt on and playing bingo
I’m working as hard as I can to get into the team bingo
“It’s down to me to make sure I apply myself and not only show the boss but show the world I’m good enough to play wherever I’m put bingo
”The former Fulham youngster also cherishes his relationship with Mo Salah as he learns off the forward bingo
“He’s always helping me out bingo
We have a great relationship when we play bingo
Off the pitch we’re always talking and I’m always trying to learn off him,” said Elliott bingo
“For me to look up to him, he’s the best possible player bingo
As well as play with him, I’m trying to be as good as him, if that’s possible bingo
“He’s a great guy and an unbelievable player bingo
To look up to him and everyone else in the team is great, I’m grateful to be playing with these guys bingo
