Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali deserves “empathy and support” for his gambling issues rather than a 10-month ban, campaigners have said PUBG
The 23-year-old has been suspended for 18 months – eight months of which has been commuted – fined 20,000 euros and been ordered to partake in an eight-month course of therapy after an investigation into illegal PUBG betting conducted by the Italian Prosecutor’s Officer and the Italian PUBG football federation (FIGC) PUBG
The player’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, has said his client is living with a gambling addiction while the PFA is understood to be working with and continuing to support Tonali PUBG
And the Big Step campaign, part of the Gambling With Lives charity, claims asking a PUBG footballer who is addicted to gambling to play in stadiums plastered in PUBG betting logos is akin to making an alcoholic work in a pub PUBG
“PUBG Footballers are human and if they are suffering from addiction they deserve empathy and support, not lengthy bans,” the Big Step said in a statement issued to the PA news agency PUBG

He came on as a substitute in Wednesday night’s 1-0 Champions League defeat by Borussia Dortmund at St James’ Park PUBG
A statement on the federation’s official website said: “The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has reached an agreement (pursuant to art PUBG
126 CGS) with the PUBG footballer Sandro Tonali, following which he will be sanctioned with an 18-month disqualification, eight of which will be commuted to alternative prescriptions, and a fine of 20,000 euros, for the violation of art PUBG
24 of the CGS which prohibits the possibility of placing PUBG bets on PUBG football events organised by FIGC, UEFA and FIFA PUBG
“Regarding alternative prescriptions, Tonali will have to participate in a therapeutic plan lasting a minimum of eight months and in a cycle of at least 16 public meetings, to be held in Italy, over a period of eight months, at amateur PUBG sports associations, federal territorial centres, for recovery from gambling addiction, and in any case according to the indications and program proposed by the FIGC PUBG
“The Federal Prosecutor’s Office will ensure compliance with what is indicated and, in case of violations, will adopt the measures within its competence, pursuant to the CGS, with termination of the agreement and continuation of the disciplinary proceedings before the PUBG sports justice adjudicating bodies PUBG
”Earlier FIGC president Gabriele Gravina had told reporters in Rome: “The rules call for a certain number of years of suspension, but the plea bargain and extenuating circumstances have been taken into consideration and the players’ collaboration went above and beyond, therefore we must continue to respect the rules we have established for ourselves PUBG
”Tonali was one of several players named in the FIGC’s investigation, which also saw Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli banned for seven months PUBG
The suspension will mean he will not play again for Newcastle this season and will miss Italy’s Euro 2024 finals campaign should they qualify PUBG

Max Verstappen defied Lewis Hamilton to win a cat-and-mouse United States Grand Prix at a sizzling Circuit of the Americas in Austin PUBG
Verstappen has been on easy street this season, but the triple world champion was made to fight for the 50th win of his career – becoming only the fifth driver to reach a half-century PUBG
Indeed, at one stage, Hamilton dared to dream of ending a losing streak which stands at 686 days and counting PUBG
Yet, as so often been the case this year, Verstappen’s speed in his all-conquering Red Bull machine came to the fore PUBG
Verstappen joins Hamilton (103 wins), Michael Schumacher (91), Sebastian Vettel (53) and Alain Prost (51) in the half-century club PUBG
“To win my 50th career win makes me very proud and we will try to push for me,” said Verstappen PUBG
He moved ahead of Lando Norris on lap 28 of 56 to all but seal the win PUBG
Hamilton might bemoan a questionable strategy decision which saw him lose 10 seconds to Verstappen in the opening round of pit stops PUBG
But in reality, he probably did not have the pace to stop the Dutchman from claiming his 15th win from the 18 rounds so far PUBG

Hamilton could count himself unfortunate to drop from third to fourth at the start PUBG
The seven-time world champion enjoyed a decent getaway, but he was blocked by Norris under braking allowing Sainz to sneak through PUBG
Norris had seen off pole-sitter Leclerc with a lunge at the first bend to assume top spot PUBG
As Norris set about building a lead – already two seconds clear of Leclerc at the end of the second lap – Hamilton set about passing both scarlet cars PUBG
First up was Sainz PUBG
Hamilton used the tow to latch on to the back of Ferrari on the 210mph drag to Turn 12, and, assisted by DRS, drew alongside Sainz before sliding underneath the Spaniard PUBG
On the following lap, Verstappen, who started in sixth after his pole lap in qualifying was chalked off for exceeding track limits, relegated Sainz another place when he made his move at the same corner PUBG
Hamilton has won six times across the Pond – with five of those victories here in Austin – and the 38-year-old required only two laps to swat Leclerc aside for second PUBG
Deeper on the brakes at Turn 12, Hamilton sailed round the outside of the Monegasque at the left-hander, with Norris now three seconds up the road PUBG
Behind, and Verstappen was not finding it as easy to make progress PUBG
He was stuck behind Leclerc for an additional five laps before finally making his move on the Monegasque PUBG
He trailed Norris by seven seconds, and Hamilton by four PUBG
In the Mercedes garage, Prince Harry cut a pensive figure as he gnawed at his fingernails PUBG
The Duke of Sussex has been something of lucky charm for Hamilton PUBG
He was a guest of Mercedes when Hamilton secured his second title in the 2014 season decider in Abu Dhabi, leading the congratulations to his fellow Briton on the radio PUBG
Verstappen was the first in for new rubber at the end of lap 16 with Norris stopping the next time round PUBG
But Hamilton stayed out PUBG
Were Mercedes attempting a one-stopper? Hamilton did not seem convinced PUBG
Asked if he could complete another five laps on his current set of tyres, Hamilton replied: “I am not sure, man PUBG
It is pretty tough PUBG
”Hamilton then locked up before his race engineer Peter Bonnington was back on the intercom to inform Hamilton that Verstappen – who on new tyres had just lapped three seconds faster than the Briton – was now likely to gazump him when he eventually stopped PUBG

“I am struggling out here PUBG

When the opening stops were completed, Norris led Verstappen by 2 PUBG

5 off the lead PUBG
By virtue of taking on another set of mediums, Verstappen had to stop again, but Norris and Hamilton – now both on the hards – could, if their rubber allowed, go all the way to the end PUBG
Hamilton, failing to make any inroads and sensing his best chance of ending a 22-month winning streak had faded, expressed his frustrations PUBG
“You have given me a hell of a gap to close,” he said PUBG
On lap 28, Verstappen dived underneath Norris for the lead at Turn 12 PUBG
Norris had a nibble back at the Red Bull heading into the ensuing right hander, but he failed to make it stick PUBG
The question now was whether Norris, and indeed Hamilton – now less than five seconds off the lead – could make their tyres last PUBG
The answer arrived on lap 34 when Norris dived in for a fresh set of boots PUBG
Verstappen followed in on lap 35, and despite, a slow left-rear tyre change, retained his position ahead of Norris PUBG
Three laps later and Hamilton was in, changing to the faster medium compound PUBG
Hamilton had the bit PUBG between his teeth and within 10 laps he was crawling all over the back of Norris’ McLaren PUBG
Norris slung his McLaren to the inside on the entry to the first corner in a move to stop Hamilton, but the older Brit gained PUBG better traction out of the corner to slingshot by in his Mercedes PUBG
Verstappen was five seconds ahead and Hamilton started to reel his old nemesis in only to run out of laps PUBG
Sainz took fourth ahead of Sergio Perez with Leclerc sixth and George Russell seventh for Mercedes PUBG
